The invention is directed to embolic material comprising spherical, homogeneous and substantially non-porous radiopaque polymer particles based on at least one hydrophilic monomer and at least one radiopaque monomer according to general formula (I): wherein R is H, methyl or ethyl, and R1 is I, Br or formula (II): wherein R2 is O, NH, 0-[CH2-CH2-O]P-C(O)-, O- [CH2] m-O-C(O)-, O-[CH2]p-, NH-[CH2-CH2-O]p-C(O)-, NH-[CH2]m-O-C(O)- or NH-[CH2]p- wherein m>l and p>=l, R3 is I or Br and n is 1, 2 or 3, the iodine and/or bromine content being at least 5 wt.% based on the dry weight of the particle, the said particles having an average particle diameter of at least 10 µm and being able to imbibe water up to a volume increase of the particle of at least 10 %.

L'invention porte sur un matériau embolique comprenant des particules de polymères radioopaques sphériques, homogènes et sensiblement non-poreuses basées sur au moins un hydrophile et au moins un monomère radioopaque de formule générale (I) dans laquelle: R est H, méthyle ou éthyle, et R1 I, Br ou la formule (II); R2 est O, NH, 0-[CH2-CH2-O] P-C (O)-, O-[CH2] m-O-C (O)-, O-[CH2] p-, NH-[CH2-CH2-O] p-C (O)-, NH-[CH2] m-O-C (O) - ou NH-[CH2] p, avec m>l et p>=l; R3 est I ou Br; et n est 1, 2 ou 3. La teneur en iode et/ou en brome est d'au moins 5 % du poids sec de la particule, lesdites particules ayant un diamètre moyen d'au moins 10 µm et étant capables d'absorber de l'eau jusqu'à un volume augmenté d'au moins 10 %.
