A catalyst for olefin polymerization which is highly active in olefin polymerization and with which a polyolefin having excellent properties can be produced; and a method of polymerizing an olefin using the catalyst. The catalyst comprises (A) a transition metal imine compound represented by general formula (I) and (B) at least one compound selected among (B-1) an organometallic compound, (B-2) an organoaluminumoxy compound, and (B-3) a compound which reacts with the compound (A) to form an ion pair.

L'invention concerne un catalyseur pour la polymérisation qui présente une activité élevée dans la polymérisation des oléfines, et qui permet de produire une polyoléfine présentant d'excellentes propriétés. L'invention traite également d'un procédé permettant de polymériser une oléfine à l'aide du catalyseur. Ce catalyseur comprend (A) un composé d'imine de métal de transition représenté par la formule générale (I), et (B) au moins un composé sélectionné parmi (B-1), un composé organométallique, (B-2) un composé d'organoaluminumoxy et (B-3) un composé qui réagit avec le composé (A) pour former une paire d'ions.
