Thermal microvalves and their method of use include a fusible material (40) positioned in a microchannel (44). A heater (42) melts the material (40) which is then forced by air pressure (46) into a second channel (48) where it cools and solidifies, blocking flow. Alternatively, the melted and solidified material (40) can hold a diaphragm of a diaphragm valve in place, eliminating the need for continued applied force on the diaphragm.

L'invention concerne des microvalves thermiques et leur procédé d'utilisation. Ces microvalves sont constituées d'une matière fusible (40) disposée à l'intérieur d'un microcanal (44). Un dispositif de chauffage (42) fait fondre la matière (40), laquelle est alors poussée, par une pression pneumatique (46), dans un second canal (48) où elle refroidit et se solidifie, bloquant ainsi l'écoulement. Selon un autre mode de réalisation, la matière (40) fondue et solidifiée peut maintenir en place une membrane de valve à membrane, ce qui évite d'appliquer une force continue sur la membrane.
