A direct injection Diesel engine for motor-vehicles, with small displacement, is described, which comprises a number of cylinders in line each provided with two intake valves and two exhaust valves driven by two camshafts arranged in the cylinder head, by means of rocker arms. The arrangement of the intake apertures (2, 3) and the exhaust apertures (4, 5) is such that the injector device can be housed centrally therebetween and the pre-heating glow-plug can be housed on one side, between one intake aperture and one exhaust aperture, while the overall dimensions of the engine are greatly reduced and intake and exhaust conduits (6, 7, 8) are formed which ensure optimum performance of the engine and a low fuel consumption.

On décrit un moteur diesel à injection directe, à faible débit volumétrique, destiné à des véhicules à moteur, et comprenant un certain nombre de cylindres en ligne, pourvus chacun de deux soupapes d'admission et de deux soupapes d'échappement, lesquelles sont commandées par deux arbres à cames disposés dans la tête de cylindre, au moyen de supports de culbuteurs. Cette disposition des ouvertures (2, 3) d'admission et des ouvertures (4, 5) d'échappement est telle que le dispositif d'injection peut être logé de manière centrale entre celles-ci, et que la bougie de réchauffage peut être logée sur un côté, entre une ouverture d'admission et une ouverture d'échappement, alors que les dimensions globales du moteur sont grandement réduites et que les conduits (6, 7, 8) d'admission et d'échappement sont conçus pour assurer une performance optimum du moteur et une faible consommation de carburant.
