The pallet container (1) for liquids has a replaceable inner container (2) that is of sheet metal, an outer casing (6) that is formed from a mesh, and a pallet (9) that is in the form of a base pan (10) that accommodates the bottom (16) of the inner container that is formed as a run-off base, in a positive fit. The inner container (2) that is preferably configured so as to be double-walled and of sheet metal, is welded together from a casing (11), a base section (12) and a cover (13). In order to produce the inner container, a rectangular piece of sheet metal is bent to form a tubular body, and the abutting edges of this are welded. The tubular body is stretched to form a casing that is of rectangular cross-section. Then, a peripheral groove that is of V-cross-section is formed into the two end areas of the casing, and is spaced back from its edges, which are then cut to size. Subsequently, the deep-drawn dished base section with a rounded edge is installed or placed exactly on the outer faces of a groove of the casing and the base section is secured to the casing. The cover is attached to the casing in the same way. Base section and cover are welded to the casing. In order to form a smooth transition between casing and base section, on the one hand, and between casing and cover on the other, the transition areas between casing and base section and casing and cover are expanded by applying pressure to the inner container that is installed in a supporting mould.
