The multi-purpose apparatus enables food substances in a more or less liquid state, possibly with suspended solids, to be thermally treated and mechanically processed. The apparatus comprises a radial dynamic heat exchanger, and means which enable it to be moved in order to immerse the radial dynamic heat exchanger in the food substance to be treated contained in a vessel, or to withdraw it therefrom. The shaft of the radial dynamic heat exchanger turbine is hollow, inside said shaft there being coaxially mounted a second shaft having an independent drive. On the turbine shaft and/or on the second shaft there can be fixed various rotary implements to carry out relative processes on the food substance to be treated, contained in the vessel.
