A multichip linear image sensor for use in, for example, a facsimile machine or a photocopier comprises several chip image sensors, each including photosensors and an output amplifier. To correct for the offset error of the output amplifier caused by processing variations, each chip includes a circuit enabling the amplifier to be isolated, so that its output can be sampled independantly of the image signal. To eliminate the offset error a correction circuit is provided as part of the video clamp circuit, for sampling the amplifier output and subtracting it from the subsequent image signals readout through the amplifier.
