The development and function of living tissues depends largely on interactions between cells that can vary in both time and space; however, temporal control of cell-cell interaction is experimentally challenging. By employing a micromachined silicon substrate with moving parts, herein is disclosed the dynamic regulation of cell-cell interactions via direct manipulation of adherent cells with micron-scale precision. The inventive devices and methods allow mechanical control of both tissue composition and spatial organization. The inventive device and methods enable the investigation of dynamic cell-cell interaction in a multitude of applications, such as intercellular communication, spanning embryogenesis, homeostasis, and pathogenic processes.
Selon l'invention, le développement et la fonction de tissus vivants dépendent largement des interactions entre les cellules pouvant varier aussi bien dans le temps que dans l'espace; toutefois, la commande temporelle de l'interaction cellule-cellule est expérimentalement intéressante. L'utilisation d'un substrat de silicium micro-usiné avec des pièces mobiles permet, selon l'invention, la régulation dynamique des interactions cellule-cellule par le biais de la manipulation directe de cellules adhérentes avec une précision de l'ordre de la micro-échelle. Les dispositifs et les procédés selon l'invention permettent une commande mécanique de la composition tissulaire et de l'organisation spatiale. Le dispositif et le procédé selon l'invention permettent d'examiner l'interaction cellule-cellule dynamique dans de multiples applications, par exemple la communication intercellulaire, l'embryogenèse de recouvrement, l'homéostase, et des processus pathogènes.
