This invention involves a porous device (11) for implantation in the scleral tissue (12) of the eye to relieve the intraocular pressure of glaucoma and a method for surgically implanting the device (11). The porous implant device (11) has an overall hex- ahedral shape and is surgically implanted within the scleral tissue (12) of the eye with at least one edge of the device at an open- ing (16) entering the anterior chamber (14), with no substantial extension into the anterior chamber (14) to provide efficient drain- age of aqueous fluid from the anterior chamber (14) for longer periods of time to provide intraocular pressure relief and prevent adverse effects of glaucoma.
