A waveguide for projecting a longitudinal acous- tic wave of wavelength .lambda. from an ultrasound energy source toward a target area. The waveguide has at least one tubular channel. The channel has inwardly tapered, conical inlet and outlet ports separated by a venturi. The inlet port taper defines a sharply rimmed entry orifice around the inlet port. A separation distance equal to one wave- length .lambda. is maintained between the source and the wave- guide's inlet port. The waveguide shears off a cross- section of the wave emitted by the energy source and ejects it at accelerated velocity toward the target area. The channel has a length L and the venturi has a diameter D, such that the waveguide has an emitted beam angle equal to 2 (tan-1 (D/L)). Preferably, a plurality of tubular channels are aligned concentrically around and longitudi- nally parallel to the one tubular channel, each channel having a selected length and a selected diameter. The channels are preferably circular in cross-section, with their outlet ports located in an inwardly scalloped front face of the waveguide.

Cette invention concerne un guide d'ondes destiné à projeter vers une cible une onde acoustique longitudinale de longueur d'onde lambda émise par une source d'énergie ultrasonore. Le guide d'ondes comporte au moins un canal tubulaire dont les orifices d'entrée et de sortie à conicité divergente sont séparés par un venturi. La configuration conique côté admission définit une ouverture à arête vive entourant l'orifice d'entrée. La source d'émission et l'orifice d'entrée sont séparées d'une distance égale à une longueur d'onde lambda. Le guide d'ondes découpe une section de l'onde émise par la source et la projette à vitesse accélérée vers la cible. Le canal susmentionné a une longueur L et le venturi un diamètre D qui donnent un faisceau d'émissiondont l'ouverture est égale à to 2 (tan-1 (D/L)). De préférence, le guide d'ondes comporte une série de canaux tubulaires parallèles au canal tubulaire ci-dessus et disposés concentriquement autour de celui-ci, chaque canal ayant une longueur et un diamètre prédéterminés. Ces canaux ont de préférence une section circulaire et leur orifice de sortie débouche dans une plaque frontale bombée vers l'intérieur.
