A pre-stressed plastic or metal sheet structure for use primarily as reinforcement in civil engineering applications is produced by forming an array of bulges in the sheet to pre-stress it in all directions in the plane of the sheet, and then removing the bulges, or a part of each bulge, to form holes in the sheet. The pressing of the sheet to form bulges pre-stresses the sheet and increases its tensile strength and resistance to elongation under load.
Structure précontrainte, formée de plastique ou d'une feuille métallique et destinée essentiellement à servir de renforcement dans des applications de génie civil. Pour créer cette structure, on forme dans une feuille un réseau de gonflements, ce qui a pour effet de précontraindre cette feuille en tous sens dans son plan; puis, on enlève ces gonflements ou une partie de chacun d'entre eux afin de créer des trous dans la feuille. En exerçant une pression sur la feuille pour former ces gonflements, on la précontraint et l'on augmente ainsi sa résistance à la traction et à l'élongation sous une charge.
