A catheter-based ultrasonic transducer array (2) is provided which includes a piezoelectric member (22) sandwiched between matching layers (23) and a backing member (21). A flexible stiffening element or elements is embedded in the backing member. The element (10a, 10b) is opaque to radio frequencies and integrated along the azimuthal axis of the array (2) so as to enable a user to view the element in an image of the array derived from the array (2) output and thus determine the angular position of the array (2). A flexible interconnection assembly (11) provides an electrical connection between the electrodes of the piezoelectric member (22) and external cabling. Different methods are provided for adding a surrounding protective cover (3) to the array (2).
L'invention concerne un réseau de transducteurs (2) ultrasonores utilisés par un cathéter comprenant un élément piézo-électrique (22) pris en sandwich entre des couches correspondantes (23) et un élément de support (21). Un ou des élément(s) de raidissage flexibles sont incorporés dans ledit élément de support. L'élément (10a, 10b) est opaque aux fréquences radio, et intégré le long de l'axe azimutal du réseau (2) de façon à permettre à un utilisateur de visualiser l'élément dans une image du réseau dérivé de la sortie dudit réseau (2), ce qui permet de déterminer la position angulaire de ce réseau (2). Un ensemble d'interconnexions (11) flexible permet d'établir une connexion électrique entre les électrodes de l'élément piézo-électrique (22) et un câblage externe. L'invention concerne également différents procédés permettant d'ajouter un couvercle protecteur (3) périphérique audit réseau (2).
