A water treatment apparatus comprises a basin (2) having a diffusor means (14) at the bottom thereof. In operation of the apparatus the diffusor means produces air bubbles of varying sizes acting to bring impurities in the water towards the surface. The air bubbles also serve to circulate the basin water as a first stream (A) in a direction outwardly from the diffusor means. Further, a flow generator (16) in the basin acts to circulate the water as a second stream (B) circumferentially the basin. The two circulation streams (A, B) cooperate to form a peripheral flow path (S) in which contaminated foam and slurry at the water surface (15) are concentrated and removed by means of a device (18) located along the peripheral flow path (S).

Lors du fonctionnement de l'appareil, le diffuseur produit des bulles d'air de différentes dimensions servant à porter à la surface les impuretés présentes dans l'eau, et à faire circuler l'eau du bassin selon un premier courant (A) se dirigeant vers l'extérieur à partir du diffuseur. En outre, un dispositif de mise en circulation (16) prévu dans le bassin fait circuler l'eau selon un second courant circonférentiel (B). Les deux courants (A, B) coopèrent de manière à former une voie d'écoulement périphérique (S) dans laquelle les mousses et boues contaminées présentes à la surface (15) de l'eau sont concentrées puis évacuées par un dispositif (18) situé dans la voie d'écoulement périphérique (S).
