The invention relates to an automatic apparatus, computer controlled, for monitoring the settlement of solids in a liquid, specifically sludge in effluent from a sewage treatment plant. The apparatus enables the determination of the parameter known as the Stirred Specific Volume Index (SSVI) of the sludge. The apparatus includes a standard cylindrical vessel for receiving the sludge, and opposed banks of LEDs and sensors which monitor the settlement height of the sludge as it settles in the liquid. Stirring is effected by an eccentric stirrer controlled by a Hall Effect device and the output from the sensor is fed to an electronic circuit fed by a computer for providing a determination of SSVI and hence control of a sewage works.
Cette invention concerne un appareil automatique commandé par ordinateur de surveillance de la sédimentation de solides dans un liquide, en particulier des boues dans les eaux rejetées par une centrale de traitement des eaux usées. L'appareil permet de déterminer l'indice de volume des boues brassées. Il comprend une enceinte cylindrique standard destinée à recevoir la boue et des groupements opposés de DEL et de capteurs qui détectent la hauteur de sédimentation de la boue. Le brassage est réalisé par un agitateur commandé par un dispositif à effet Hall et le signal de sortie des capteurs est envoyé à un circuit électronique contrôlé par un ordinateur pour déterminer l'indice de volume des boues brassées et régler la marche de l'usine en fonction de cet indice.
