A brachytherapy applicator for treatment of metastic lesions in a load bearing region is provided. The applicator comprises an elongate tube body having a proximal and a distal end and defining an open internal area. A fixation element located on an outer portion of the tube allows the applicator to be fixed in position in relation to a target region while delivering a dose of therapeutic radiation. The fixation element can fix the applicator to tissue and/or a stabilization element implanted within a patient. A source of radiation positioned within the elongate body, before, during, or after implantation of the applicator, provides the therapeutic radiation.
L'invention concerne un applicateur de brachythérapie destiné au traitement de lésions métastatiques dans une région supportant une charge. Cet applicateur comprend un corps tubulaire allongé présentant une extrémité proximale et une extrémité distale et définissant un espace interne ouvert. Un élément de fixation placé sur une zone externe du tube permet de maintenir l'applicateur dans une position adéquate relativement à une zone cible pendant qu'il diffuse une dose de rayonnement thérapeutique. L'élément de fixation permet de fixer l'applicateur sur les tissus et/ou sur un élément stabilisateur implanté dans le patient. Une source de rayonnement qui est placée à l'intérieur du corps allongé avant, pendant ou après la mise en place de l'applicateur, produit un rayonnement thérapeutique.
