The rear derailleur on a bicycle is necessarily mounted in a position which makes it vulnerable to damage and misalignment during off road riding. This invention both protects the derailleur from impact and adds support by constraining the derailleur at a second point, additional to its own mounting point. This invention places a protective member over the derailleur which is attached to the bicycle frame at a point which is independent of the derailleur mount. This protective member covers the part of the derailleur which protrudes the farthest from the bicycle. A pin which protrudes inward from the protective member constrains the rear derailleur at the head, or outer, end of its mounting bolt.
