A variable geometry turbocharging system (70) for use in an internal combustion engine utilizes a voice coil assembly (110). The voice coil assembly (110) includes a field (116) and an armature (140). The voice coil assembly (110) is actuatable to move the armature (140) relative to the field (116), and is connected to the turbocharger (112) such that movement of the armature (140) relative to the field (116) changes the geometry of the turbocharger (112). A linear resistive transducer (152) is provided for feedback of the armature position.
