ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method and apparatus for reclaiming foundry sand wherein the speed of the rotor and/or the drum and, thus, the resulting striking, shearing and friction forces are adapted or matched to the changing surface hardness of the quartz grains to be processed during the process duration. The drum comprises two drum halves separated transversely to the rotational axis, a sand inlet and a suction removal device. -20-
