Deep Vein Thrombosis or DVT (especially of the legs) with its attendant complications, such as stroke, is a constant hazard or threat in extended or long plane flights. Routine preventive administration of a blood- thinning drug such as aspirin or acetylsalicylic acid may be a useful preventive measure against this affliction. This is to be done with proper medical protocol. The airlines may adopt such preventive measures by ensuring distribution of information on and supply of the blood thinning agent to the at-risk group of their passengers as a part of their business.
