A recreational and amusement device for a dog takes the form of a ball (10) having a substantially spheroidal profile. The exterior wall (12) of the ball (10) is shaped to form surfaces of a main body (l4) and surfaces of two substantially identical handles (16, 18) spaced approximately 180 degrees apart and lying within the substantially spheroidal profile. The main body (14) includes an outer surface (20) which conforms to the substantially spheroidal profile and a plurality of inboard surfaces (22, 24) extending between different locations on the substantially spheroidal profile. The handles (16, 18) include outer surfaces (26, 28) lying within the substantially spheroidal profile of the bail (10) and inner surfaces (30, 32) opposing respective ones of the inboard surfaces (22, 24) of the main body (14). The inner surfaces (30, 32) of the handles (16, 18) and the inboard surfaces (22, 24) of the main body (14) form contours which bound openings (34, 36) extending through the substantially spheroidal profile. The handles (16, 18) and openings (34, 36) are sized and shaped to receive the snout of the dog to permit the dog's mouth to extend completely around either of the handles (16, 18) to grip the ball. When one of the handles (16, 18) is so gripped, the opposite handle (16 or 18) may be grasped by a human who can pull on the ball (10) to play with the dog. Preferably, the ball (10) is formed from two molded half portions which are substantially identical and is made of plastic, rubber, vinyl or other elastomeric material which is sufficiently resilient to bounce.
L'invention porte sur un dispositif ludique et attractif pour chien se présentant sous forme d'une balle (10) au profil pratiquement sphéroïdal. La paroi (12) externe de la balle (10) forme les surfaces d'un corps (14) principal et les surfaces de deux poignées (16, 18) pratiquement identiques, espacées approximativement de 180 degrés et formées dans le profil pratiquement sphéroïdal. Le corps (14) principal comprend une surface (20) externe qui épouse le profil sphéroïdal et une pluralité de surfaces (22, 24) intérieures s'étendant entre différents endroits sur le profil sphéroïdal. Les poignées (16, 18) comprennent des surfaces (26, 28) externes ménagées dans le profil sphéroïdal de la balle (10) et des surfaces (30, 32) internes opposées aux surfaces (22, 24) intérieures du corps (14) principal. Les surfaces (30, 32) internes des poignées (16, 18) et les surfaces (22, 24) intérieures du corps (14) principal forment les contours qui relient les ouvertures (34, 36) s'étendant dans le profil sphéroïdal. Les poignées (16, 18) et les ouvertures (34, 36) sont dimensionnées et conçues de façon à accueillir le museau du chien afin que la gueule de celui-ci s'étende tout autour de l'une ou l'autre des poignées (16, 18) pour attraper la balle. Lorsque l'une des poignées (16, 18) est ainsi saisie par le chien, la poignée (16 ou 18) opposée peut être prise par l'homme qui peut tirer sur la balle (10) pour jouer avec le chien. De préférence, la balle (10) est formée de deux parties moulées pratiquement identiques et est en matière plastique, en caoutchouc, en vinyle ou autre matériau élastomère suffisamment résilient pour rebondir.
