A method and apparatus, for use in a computer image generation system (10) wherein polygons are displayed on a video display (18), for encoding data representing intersections of the polygons and the pixels. The method comprises the steps of receiving input data signals characterizing a set of coordinates of each of at least three vertices of each polygon to be displayed through an input control interface (22), each different pair of the vertices of each polygon defining a different edge of the polygon; and generating, through a geometry processor (14), responsive to the received vertex data signals, edge data signals describing the intersection, if any, of the polygon edges with each pixel to be displayed.

Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil que l'on utilise dans des systèmes de génération d'images informatiques (10), où des polygones sont affichés sur un réseau de pixels (18), afin de coder les données représentant les intersections entre les polygones et les pixels. Ce procédé consiste à recevoir des signaux de données d'entrée qui caractérisent un ensemble de coordonnées (22) de chacun des trois sommets au moins de chaque polygone à afficher, chaque paire différente des sommets de chaque polygone définissant une arête différente dudit polygone. On génère ensuite, en fonction des signaux de données sur les sommets qui ont été reçus, des signaux de données d'arêtes qui décrivent l'intersection, si intersection il y a, entre les arêtes du polygone et chaque pixel à afficher.
