Novel compounds of the structural formula (I) are antagonists and/or inverse agonists of the Cannabinoid-1 (CB1) receptor and are useful in the treatment, prevention and suppression of diseases mediated by the CB1 receptor. The compounds of the present invention are useful as centrally acting drugs in the treatment of psychosis, memory deficits, cognitive disorders, migraine, neuropathy, neuro-inflammatory disorders including multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome and the inflammatory sequelae of viral encephalitis, cerebral vascular accidents, and head trauma, anxiety disorders, stress, epilepsy, Parkinson~s disease, movement disorders, and schizophrenia. The compounds are also useful for the treatment of substance abuse disorders, the treatment of obesity or eating disorders, as well as the treatment of asthma, constipation, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, and cirrhosis of the liver.

L'invention concerne de nouveaux composés représentés par la formule (I). Lesdits composés sont des antagonistes et/ou des agonistes inverses du récepteur cannabinoïde-1 (CB1) et servent au traitement, à la prévention et à la suppression de maladies à médiation par le récepteur CB1. Lesdits composés servent également de médicaments à action centrale dans le traitement de psychoses, de troubles de la mémoire, de troubles cognitifs, de migraines, de neuropathies, de troubles neuro-inflammatoires tels que la sclérose en plaques, le syndrome de Guillain-Barré et les séquelles inflammatoires de l'encéphalite virale, d'accidents vasculaires cérébraux, de traumatismes crâniens, de troubles de l'anxiété, du stress, de l'épilepsie, de la maladie de Parkinson, de troubles moteurs et de la schizophrénie. Lesdits composés servent également au traitement de troubles d'abus de substances psychoactives, au traitement de l'obésité ou de troubles de l'alimentation, ainsi qu'au traitement de l'asthme, de la constipation, de la pseudo-obstruction intestinale chronique, et de la cirrhose du foie.
