The use is provided of a fructan with an average degree of polymerisation of at least 15 for the manufacture of a composition for the prevention and/or treatment of colon cancer in non-bovine mammals, particularly in human beings. Also provided is a method of prevention and treatment of colon cancer in a non-bovine mammal, particularly in a human being, comprising administering to said mammal a composition comprising an effective dose of a fructan with an average degree of polymerisation of at least 15. The said composition can be a medicament as well as a functional food. In a preferred embodiment the fructan is inulin, more preferably inulin with an average degree of polymerisation of at least 20.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation d'un fructosane présentant un degré moyen de polymérisation d'au moins 15 pour la préparation d'une composition pour la prévention et/ou le traitement du cancer du colon chez les mammifère non bovins, plus particulièrement chez l'homme. L'invention concerne également un procédé préventif et thérapeutique du cancer du colon chez un mammifère non bovin, plus particulièrement chez l'homme, consistant à administrer audit mammifère une composition contenant une dose utile de fructosane présentant un degré moyen de polymérisation d'au moins 15. Ladite composition peut être un médicament ou un aliment fonctionnel. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré, le fructosane est une inuline, de préférence une inuline dont le degré moyen de polymérisation est d'au moins 20.
