Description

REMOTE LUBRICATION SYSTEM FOR CONVEYOR BEARING Abstract A conveyor apparatus includes a drive unit (10) with a drive sprocket assembly (12) of an armored face conveyor having a central drive shaft (20) for rotation within a lubricated bearing (24). A bearing housing (26) encloses the-bearing (24) and includes an array of access ports (40) circumferentially spaced around the perimeter. A split conveyor frame (28) defines semicircular mounting rings (42) for receiving the bearing housing (26) and securely mounting the drive sprocket assembly (12). A lubricant channel (44) is provided in the surface of one mounting ring (42), and the surface of the other mounting ring (42) provides a lubricant seal. The lubricant channel (44) aligns with the access ports (40) of the bearing housing (25), and includes stopper plugs (46) at each end to restrict the lubricant flow. A transfer tube (52) having a lubricant fitting (54) on a first end transversely extends across the conveyor assembly. A lubricant passage (64) in the conveyor frame (28) extends between the lubricant channel (44) and a feed orifice (60) of the transfer tube (52). Lubricant applied at the fitting (54) is communicated through the transfer tube (52) and lubricant passage (54) to fill the lubricant channel (44). From the lubricant channel (44), lubricant is forced through the access ports (40) of the bearing housing (26) to effectively lubricate the internal bearing (24).
