A five-piece plastic container for carrying items comprises a bottom piece and four side pieces; each side edge of the bottom piece includes a series of horizontally spaced recessed areas and a horizontally extending integrally formed hinge traversing the recessed area. Each lower edge of the side pieces includes a series of horizontally spaced extensions which are adapted to be received within a corresponding one of the recessed areas for the assembly of the side pieces to the bottom piece. The profile is configured to enable engagement and disengagement with and from the hinges, allowing the side pieces to be moved between an outward foldback position, an erected position and an inwardly folded position. The bottom piece is molded in a first color while the side pieces may be molded in a second color so that, when the container, in an inwardly folded position or in an outward foldback position, is stacked with similarly constructed containers, each side edge of the bottom piece of each container in the stack displays a color representative of the height of the side pieces of the container and the extensions of the side pieces of each folded container in the stack displays a color representative of the dimensions of the bottom piece of that container.
