ABSTRACT MOLD CLOSING UNIT FOR USE IN AN INJECTION MOLDING MACHINE FOR PROCESSING SYNTHETIC MATERIALS In a mold closing unit for use in an injection molding machine for processing synthetic materials arranged on a mounting surface an electro-mechanical drive is applied in a toggle mechanism, at which the driving unit is movably held. The elctro-mechanical drive converts a rotational movement of a driving unit into a linear movement for the toggle. The lenght of the lever and the length of the driving element, formed as a double toothed rack, is less than the distance from the mounting surface to the link points. Alternatively a quill motor can be provided as driving unit. This arrangement allows that the linear drive and the mold closing unit can be of a shorter and more compact construction.
