-1- ABSTRACT Summary Heat exchanger for the dehumidification of compressed air and the compressed air dryer in which it is installed. Heat exchangers in which at least either on the heating side or the heated side the heat exchanger surface takes the form of the inner surface of a sintered material are characterized by extremely high heat transfer performance. The disadvantage, however, is the relatively high flow resistance of the sintered material. The invention involves a heat exchanger which is particularly suitable for the dehumidification of compressed air and achieves a lower pressure loss than in sacrifices in heat transfer performance. The heat exchanger has sintered matrix with a particle size of more than 1.5 mm and preferably in the range between 1.6 and 2.0 mm. With this particle size the pressure loss remains within an acceptable range, while at the same time the heat exchange performance is reduced only negligibly compared with particle sizes of less than 1.5 mm.
