A display device, according to the present invention, taking the form of a scroll with handle and a spool-rod shaft for rolling and unrolling printed flexible material and a tubular housing with an internal chamber -a floating cowling- freely rotatable over said wound spool-rod from which the printed material is extendable. The scroll text or image to be viewed is manually extendable by pulling it through a continuous longitudinal slit in the cowling with a pull-tab that prevents it from being irretrievably drawn into the cowling. The cowling is rotatably received at its open ends over the spool-rod by a pair of retaining aligning yokes. The invention improves on traditional scrolls by providing protective containment for the printed material without requiring the containment's separation for display. The cowling and handle are adaptable as works of art related to the printed material.
