A sampling phase calculating part calculates complex cross-correlation functions ? of a part corresponding to a training sequence ? of an equalizer of each sequence with respect to individual sample value sequences ?i of reception signals y(t) which are sampled in a plurality of different sampling phases and selects a sampling phase where the absolute values of these complex cross-correlation functions are maximized, then selects a sampling phase ?s where the bit error rate is minimized according to a calculation based on the above selected sampling phase. A sampling processing part (120) samples reception signals y(t) in the sampling phase ?s and selectively calculates the sampling phase ?s where the bit error rate is expected to be minimized from a plurality of different sampling phases through estimation of an estimated value E? of a transmission symbol sequence in a Viterbi algorithm processing part (130) and a transmission line estimating part (140), thereby a transmission symbol sequence with an improved bit error rate and higher accuracy is estimated.
