A power management system (28) automatically manages the power to operate a biomedical device, such as an infusion pump (34) containing an internal battery (26). When external power is available, the management system operates the biomedical device from the external power and controls a recharger to maintain the battery (26) at full charge. The power management system (28) automatically calculates battery charge status and use and provides a run time display (24) of the calculated amount of time that the battery can operate the biomedical device under current power requirements of the biomedical device. The power management sytem (28) automatically updates the calculated charge status of the battery as well as the calculated capacity of the battery based on environmental factors and battery characteristics. The power management system automatically and periodically performs a deep discharge/recharge cycle to refresh the battery.

Système de gestion de courant (28) gérant automatiquement le courant servant à faire fonctionner un dispositif biomédical, tel qu'une pompe de perfusion (34) contenant une pile intérieure (26). Quand un courant extérieur est disponible, ce système de gestion fait fonctionner le dispositif biomédical à partir du courant extérieur et commande à un chargeur de maintenir la pile (26) en charge totale. Ce système (28) calcule automatiquement l'état de charge de la batterie, ainsi que la charge utilisée et affiche (24) au moment de l'exécution le temps calculé d'alimentation possible du dispositif biomédical par la pile en fonction de la consommation normale d'énergie dudit dispositif. Ce système effectue un cycle automatique et périodique de décharge et de recharge totales afin de remettre la pile à neuf.
