The present invention relates to a method for the provision of mutagenised populations by the introduction of mu-tations by chemically and or physically mutagens in a selected region of the genome of a plant and the subsequent selection of inheritable mutations by analysis of at least one section of a mutagenised primary M1 plant for the presence of a mutation in the region of interest using high throughput sequencing.
