Method for synchronizing a received data block comprising information data and a subsequent checksum field, and a device for carrying out the method The invention enables the checksum to be quickly determined repeatedly with a low outlay on circuitry. In the case of inequality between a checksum determined from information data of a data block and a compare value contained in the data block, a new checksum is obtained with each further clock pulse by selecting only the bits of the preceding checksum which were determined in the preliminary calculations as a function of a selected generator polynomial as being capable of change, and combining said bits logically for the purpose of forming the new checksum with the initially transmitted bit of the respectively preceding data block. Applicable for finding an ATM (Asynchronous Transmission Mode) cell beginning in broadband ISDN networks.
