A drum comprises a cylindrical metal body portion, and an end portion which is connected to the body portion at one end or the body portion by a seam; the body portion is necked-in adjacent the seam, so that the cross-section at the seam is reduced, and the body portion is also similarly necked-in adjacent the opposite end of the body portion; the necking-in is obtained by carrying out reduction operations on the body portion.
