A positioning system for racing cars is disclosed, which comprises a vehicle information device mounted in a racing car, with a positioning device for gathering and output of positional data, by means of which the position of the racing car can be fixed and a transmitter for sending the positional data to a control centre. A number of such vehicle information devices, operated in cooperation with a computational device, allow a useful execution of a positioning system, whereby said computational unit calculates the position of each car on the circuit from the transmitted positional data and stored race track data. The position of each of the race cars can be fixed using the virtual map of the race track course, in the form of the race track data and the transmitted positional data, without the need to establish positioning devices at essentially all the points around the race track. A vehicle coming to rest or leaving the race track can also be determined and precisely located without additional requirements.
Système de localisation pour voitures de course, doté d'un dispositif d'informations qui est placé dans une voiture de course et qui comporte un dispositif de localisation destiné à recueillir et à produire des données de localisation grâce auxquelles la position de la voiture de course peut être déterminée, et un émetteur qui transmet les données de localisation à une centrale. Pour que ledit système soit avantageusement conçu en tant que système de localisation, une pluralité de ces dispositifs d'informations placés dans les voitures fonctionne en combinaison avec un dispositif informatique qui calcule la position des différentes voitures de course sur un circuit sur la base des données de localisation transmises et à l'aide des données de circuit se trouvant en mémoire. La représentation virtuelle du tracé du circuit sous forme de données de circuit permet la détermination des positions des voitures à l'aide des données de localisation transmises, sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'installer des dispositifs de détermination de position à tous les points essentiels du circuit. Il est également possible, sans difficultés supplémentaires, de déterminer et de localiser avec exactitude une voiture qui a quitté le circuit ou qui est à l'arrêt.
