A fluid delivery apparatus (50) for infusing medicinal fluids into a patient which is of a compact, low profile, fluid storage device (52), laminate construction, with a cooperating and remotely located infusion means (54) for infusing the medicinal fluid (F) into the patient. The apparatus embodies a novel thermal expanding polymer material (70) which uniquely functions as an internal energy source for expelling the medicinal fluids from the device. The apparatus can be used for subdermal, intradermal and intramuscular infusion of fluids and in one form of the invention, includes a novel delivery cannula having a body portion disposed within a circuitous channel (108) formed within the base (56) of the apparatus and a pierceable portion (100d) which extends outwardly from the base of the apparatus.

Dispositif (50) servant à administrer des liquides médicaux à un malade par perfusion, présentant l'aspect stratifié compact, de profil bas, d'un accumulateur de liquide (52) et comportant des moyens de perfusion (54) coopérant et placés à distance afin d'administrer au malade le liquide médical (F) par perfusion. Ce dispositif incorpore un nouveau matériau polymère (70) se dilatant sous l'effet de la chaleur et fonctionnant uniquement en tant que source d'énergie interne afin d'expulser les liquides médicaux depuis ledit dispositif. On peut mettre en application ce dernier afin d'effectuer la perfusion sous-cutanée, intradermique et intramusculaire de liquides et, dans un aspect de l'invention, il comporte une nouvelle canule d'administration possédant une partie corps située à l'intérieur d'un circuit (108) créé dans la base (56) du dispositif, ainsi qu'une partie (100d) pouvant être percée et s'étendant vers l'extérieur depuis la base dudit dispositif.
