An elastically stretchable, absorbent article, such as a pantiliner, is provided for adhesive attachment to an undergarment. A stretchable adhesive is applied to a major portion of the surface of the article, the adhesive extending at least substantially to its perimeter over a major portion of the perimeter. Adhesive patterns which can be used include ones in which adhesive-free regions are left at the ends or corners of the article, and ones in which there is a narrow, adhesive-free strip extending along at least a substantial part of the perimeter.
