ABSTRACT An afocal optical imaging system, in particular a telescopic sight, having an objective (10') and an eyepiece (10"), has an angular magnification (V) which varies transverse to the optical axis (20), preferably decreasing towards the periphery. The object to be magnified can, in this way, be initially relatively easily detected with the zone (34) of lesser magnification. Thereupon, the imaging system can be conveniently positioned in such a way that its zone of stronger magnification (V) precisely locks on the object. (Fig. 1) -9-
