Methods for enhancing the quality of life of a senior or super senior animal by feeding the animal a composition comprising at least one omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid and various combinations of amino acids, minerals, and antioxidants in amounts effective to enhance alertness, improve vitality, protect cartilage, maintain muscle mass, enhance digestibility, and im-prove skin and pelage quality. Changes in expression of genes associated with several biological pathways induced in an animal by feeding it said composition are consistent with an enhanced quality of life.
L'invention concerne des procédés pour améliorer la qualité de vie d'un animal âgé ou très âgé en lui donnant une composition comportant au moins un acide gras oméga-3 et diverses combinaisons d'acides aminés, de minéraux et d'antioxydants, en des quantités efficaces pour améliorer la vivacité et la vitalité, protéger les cartilages, maintenir la masse musculaire, favoriser l'aptitude à la digestion et améliorer la qualité de la peau et du pelage. Des changements d'expression de gène associés à plusieurs voies biologiques induits chez un animal en lui donnant ladite la composition sont cohérents avec une qualité de vie améliorée.
