A polymer/ceramic alloy material and process for production thereof. The process comprises the step of: heating a powdered precursor material comprising a mixture of polymer particles and ceramic particles, the precursor material having an average particle size less than about 1000 µm to a temperature less than the melting point of the polymer and at a pressure of at least about 5 MPa to produce the polymer/ceramic alloy material. Preferably the powdered precursor material is produced by mechanically milling a polymer and a ceramic to provide a powdered precursor material having an average particle size in the range of from about 0.5 µm to about 200 µm.
