The invention comprises a locking assembly for a tarpaulin, comprising: a) a track assembly for mounting a bow for supporting the tarpaulin, the track assembly enabling longitudinal movement of the bow along a track; b) a guide rail mounted substantially parallel to the track; c) a universal support coupled to the track assembly and operative to engage the guide rail and maintain the bow in a substantially straight position during tensioning; d) a main support, detachably couplable to the guide rail and, when engaged with the guide rail, operative to prevent the universal support from disengaging the guide rail; and e) a tensioning adjustment mechanism, operative to adjust the position of the universal support relative to the track assembly and maintain the tarpaulin under tension when the universal support is engaged to the guide rail.
