The invention relates to a method for operating a hearing aid (1). The method is characterised in that characteristic features are extracted from an acoustic signal which has been recorded using at least one microphone (2a, 2b) and that said characteristic features are processed in an identification phase, using hidden Markov models, in particular for determining a current acoustic environmental scene or noises and/or for recognition of a speaker and words. The invention also relates to a hearing-aid.
