The invention relate to a method and detection kit for the detection of a cannabinoid in a cannabis sample. The method is based on TLC and the method and kit enables everyone to avoid laborious, time consuming and expensive analytical research and determine the cannabinoid content. Good results are obtained with a developing solvent with at least 25 vol.% chloroform and at least 25 vol.% 1,2-dichloro ethane.
