The invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for relieving pelvic pain or infertility associated with uterine dysrhythmia. The composition includes a locally-administered anti-dysrhythmic treating agent and a bioadhesive extended-release carrier. The composition may be delivered in an extended release formulation that includes a bioadhesive, water-swellable , water-insoluble, cross-linked polycarboxylic acid polymer, such as polycarbophil. The treating agent may be a local anesthetic, such as lidocaine. The invention also relates to a method of treating or preventing pelvic pain, or treating or improving infertility, by inserting a mixture of an anti-dysrhythmic treating agent and a bioadhesive carrier into the vagina of the patient to be treated.
L'invention concerne une composition pharmaceutique destinée à traiter les douleurs pelviennes ou la stérilité associées à une dysrythmie utérine. Cette composition comprend un agent de traitement antidysrythmique administré localement et un excipient bioadhésif à libération prolongée. Elle peut se présenter sous forme de formulation à libération prolongée comprenant un polymère d'acide polycarboxylique réticulé, bioadhésif, gonflant dans l'eau et insoluble dans l'eau, tel que le polycarbophile. L'agent de traitement peut être un anesthésiant local, tel que la lidocaïne. L'invention concerne en outre une méthode pour traiter ou prévenir les douleurs pelviennes, ou pour traiter ou soigner la stérilité, cette méthode consistant à introduire un mélange d'un agent de traitement antidysrythmique et d'un excipient bioadhésif dans le vagin de la patiente à traiter.
