The present invention includes a method to determine if asphaltenes are soluble or insoluble in a solution. The solution may be a petroleum oil, a mixture of petroleum oils, petroleum derived oils and mixtures or similar combinations in a solvent. The invention includes the steps of illuminating the solution with a laser, measuring the small angle scattered light as a function of angle away from the laser beam, and determining if the asphaltenes are soluble or insoluble in the solution.

La présente invention concerne un procédé qui permet de déterminer si des asphaltènes sont solubles ou insolubles dans une solution. La solution peut être de de l'huile minérale, un mélange d'huiles minérales, des huiles dérivées du pétrole et des mélanges ou combinaisons similaires placés dans un solvant. Le procédé consiste à: éclairer la solution à l'aide d'un laser; mesurer la lumière diffusée à petit angle en fonction d'un angle éloigné du faisceau laser; et déterminer si les asphaltènes sont solubles ou insolubles dans la solution.
