-18- F-5796 ABSTRACT An integrated process that converts C3-C4 paraffins contained in the light hydrocarbon feedstream of an etherification process for the production of tertiary alkyl ether from alkanol and iso-olefins. Paraffin conversion is accomplished by carrying out the conversion of unreacted alkanol and C4- hydrocarbon from the etherification under high pressure using a high activity zeolite catalyst. The conversion of paraffin is accomplished without the production of significant quantities of methane.
