L' invention a pour objet un procédé de décapage d'un matériau en acier doux, consistant à éliminer la calamine formée lors d'une opération de transformation à chaud en immergeant ledit matériau à une température déterminée dans un bain de décapage comprenant un mélange acide sulfurique/acide chlorhydrique et des ions Fe(II), caractérisé en ce qu'on détermine un couple de concentra- tion A en acide sulfurique et de concentration B en acide chlorhydrique, procurant un temps de décapage optimal, pour au moins une concentration en ions Fe (II) et au moins une température déterminées, le temps de décapage optimal étant obtenu comme une réponse optimisée par la méthode du simplex, en comparant les valeurs du temps de décapage obtenues, pour des valeurs successives de A et B, A et B considérées comme des variables, tandis que la concentration en ions Fe (II) et la température sont constantes. L'invention a également pour objet un bain de décapage ainsi qu'une installation pour la mise en oeuvre du procédé de l'invention.
