The invention provides an automatic balancing device for counterbalancing an out-of-balance mass present in a rotating body. The automatic balancing device (50) comprises a chamber (56) having an outer wall (54) and an axis (18), first and second counterbalancing masses (80a, 80b) constrained to move freely in a circular path about the axis (18) and within the chamber (56), and a viscous fluid (60) provided in the chamber (56) so as to provide viscous coupling between the outer wall (54) of the chamber (56) and each of the counterbalancing masses (80a, 80b). The counterbalancing masses (80a, 80b) are adapted and/or arranged such that, in use, the first counterbalancing mass (80a) leads the second counterbalancing mass (80b). Constraining means (90a, 92a, 94a, 94b) are provided so as to prevent the first counterbalancing mass (80a) from leading the second counterbalancing mass (80b) by more than substantially 180~ when the device is in use. This arrangement minimises the excursion of the rotating body at the critical speed. Such an arrangement has application particularly in the field of washing machines in which the position and size of the out-of-balance mass is unpredictable and there is a need to increase the speed of rotation of the body from a relatively low speed to a relatively high speed.
L'invention concerne un dispositif d'équilibrage automatique permettant d'équilibrer une masse en déséquilibre dans un corps tournant. Ce dispositif d'équilibrage automatique (50) comprend une chambre (56) munie d'une paroi extérieure (54) et d'un axe (18), une première et une seconde masses d'équilibrage (80a, 80b) enclavées de façon qu'elles exécutent librement un mouvement circulaire autour de l'axe (18) et à l'intérieur de la chambre (56), enfin un fluide visqueux (60) contenu dans la chambre (56) afin d'assurer un couplage visqueux entre la paroi extérieure (54) de la chambre (56) et chacune des masses d'équilibrage (80a, 80b). Les masses d'équilibrage (80a, 80b) sont conçues et/ou arrangées de façon que, lors de l'utilisation, la première masse d'équilibrage (80a) est en avance sur la seconde masse d'équilibrage (80b). Des moyens d'enclavement (90a, 92a, 94a, 94b) permettent d'empêcher la première masse d'équilibrage (80a) d'être en avance de plus de pratiquement 180· sur la seconde masse d'équilibrage (80b) lorsque le dispositif est utilisé. Cet arrangement, qui minimise l'excursion du corps tournant à la vitesse critique, trouve notamment son application dans le domaine des machines à laver, dans lesquelles la position et la taille de la masse en déséquilibre n'est pas prévisible et où il est nécessaire de faire passer la vitesse de rotation du corps d'une vitesse relativement faible à une vitesse relativement élevée.
