A method of incorporating radiation-absorbing agents (i.e., dyes) into polymeric materials. A preferred method involves crosslinking or polymerizing a polymerizable or crosslinkable material in the presence of a polymeric dye. A preferred product is a tinted contact lens comprising poly(vinyl alcohol). The methods offer advantages in reduced fabrication cycles, reduced extractables, elimination of post-polymerization activation steps, elimination of post-polymerization extraction steps and reduced scrap and costs associated with lens handling.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'incorporer à des matériaux polymères des agents absorbant les rayonnements (pigments par exemple). Selon l'un des procédés préférés, on réticule ou polymérise un matériau réticulable ou polymérisable en présence d'un pigment polymère. L'un des produits préférés est une lentille de contact teintée contenant un poly(alcool de vinyle). Le procédé présente un certain nombre d'avantages: réduction des cycles de fabrication et des extractibles, élimination des étapes d'activation et d'extraction de la post-polymérisation, et diminution des déchets et des coûts associés à la manipulation des lentilles.
