The methods and apparatus described herein relates to determining water level using static head pressure in drilled and dug wells for purposes of level display in scaled units; monitoring and recording maximum and minimum water levels over time, provide flow control capability, and provide cutout capability for pumps installed in same wells for pump protection purposes. The apparatus includes a submersible pressure sensing device sealed in a watertight housing with suitable electronics for transmitting a temperature compensated electronic signal proportional to the measured pressure generated by the column of water via a two wire arrangement. The submersible pressure sensing device connects to an electronic display device which converts the transmitted current signal into a scaled value for display proposes, monitoring purposes, minimum level and maximum level recording, water flow control, and pump cutout control.
