Abstract In order to lock the extension booms 3 to the main booms 1 when the wishbone boom has been adjusted to a length that corresponds to the size of sail that is used, the outer sleeves 9 that are installed loosely on the extension booms 3 are slid onto the inner sleeves 5 in the direction indicated by the arrow a. When the outer sleeves 9 are slid on into position, the detent tabs 6 of the inner sleeve 5 are pressed together radially by the compressive force that is exerted by the ends 13 of the outer sleeve 9 through the clamping bead 7 onto the detent tabs 6, so that the detent ring segments 8 of the detent tabs 6 enter into detent in the peripheral groove 10 of the extension boom 3 and the flat ring sections 20 that are moulded on the inner side 18 of the slightly flexible teeth 15 of the face serrations 14 on the end 13 of the outer sleeve 9 enter into detent behind the clamping bead 7 that is moulded onto the inner end sections of the detent tabs 6 and the face serrations 12, 14 on the inner sleeve 5 and the outer sleeve 9 engage with each other so that the sleeves are locked to each other. The locking system is released by rotating the outer sleeve 9 in the direction indicated by arrow b or c, whereby the face serration 14 on the end 13 of the outer sleeve 9 slides out of the face serration 12 of the inner sleeve during simultaneous displacement of the outer sleeve 9 in the direction indicated by the arrow d and release of the ring sections 20 of the teeth 15 on the end 13 of the outer sleeve 9 from the clamping bead 7 on the inner sleeve 5, and by simply withdrawing the outer sleeve 9 from the inner sleeve 5.
